What’s Behind the Mask?

It seems our world is moving towards not only continued social distancing but we are encouraged to be wearing masks around each other.  What does your dog think of this? Is your pup reacting?  If they are, I can’t really blame them.  We look DIFFERENT and UNFAMILIAR.  Not only that, but there is little to no facial recognition and an emphasis on us making more defined eye contact.  All of which can feel VERY threatening to your dog.

But, hey, this is the “new normal” so our pups have to adjust…just as we do.

This week’s Tip of the Week is about desensitizing your dog to the mask.  Show them what it is, reward them when it is near them, and wear it more often when you engage with them.  These three little tips will help your dog ease into our new strange times.

Let me know how you are doing!  Post in Ask the Trainer if you have questions or success stories.  You know I love to hear from you.
